The train runs caron
We have redesigned and translated the operating instructions for the Re 420 and Re 620 locomotives for SBB Cargo. These locomotives are the most common locomotives on the Swiss rail network and are used for both passenger and freight services. The images for the driver's cab were modeled and rendered in Cinema 4D. The design of the pictograms is based on the platform lettering.
Design
Typographic layout and design
The operating instructions have been redesigned from scratch. A color scheme guides you through the various chapters.
FrameMaker template
A suitable FrameMaker template was developed for the new design of the manual.
Pictograms
The pictograms in the manual are based on the SBB platform lettering.
Translation
Translation and terminology
The operating instructions were translated into French and Italian using SDL Trados Studio. The specific SBB terminology for traction units was taken into account.
Foreign language typesetting and DTP
By using the CAT tool SDL Trados Studio, the formatting in the FrameMaker files was retained. This meant that the DTP effort after translation was minimal.
